Our custom-made emerald jewelry set
The Emerald gemstone is a variety of the mineral Beryl, and is typically a deep bluish-green or pure green color. Its history is just as rich as its color! Cleopatra had a passion for Emeralds, and the earliest dated Emerald mines were in Egypt, from at least 330 BC. However, Emeralds are much older, with the oldest being 2.97 billion years in age! In the modern age, they are the birthstone for the month of May, and the gem of the 20th and 35th wedding anniversary.
High-clarity, perfect color mined emeralds are rare, and therefore, very costly. With our lab-grown emeralds, they are grown in a controlled environment, rich in chromium, and grow larger and cleaner than their mined counterparts. The growth process takes about a year. Once they are cut and polished, they are essentially flawless in clarity and highly saturated in color (but they are NOT color treated). In fact, the price difference between one of our lab-grown emeralds and a comparable mined emerald can be as much as a $100,000 difference per carat!

Emeralds are a 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale of hardness. While mined emeralds typically have filled fractures, this makes them less durable than other colored gemstones. While lab-grown emeralds don't have nearly as many fractures, they are more durable than mined, but you should still take care when wearing them. The great thing about our colored gemstones is that they come with a Lifetime Guarantee against chipping or breakage under ordinary circumstances.
